Me and the NFL

First, because I live in NY and LOVE the Yankees (so should you) does not mean I like the NY NFL teams. I am a Washington Redskins fan to the bone. Always have, always will.

This past weekend I was invited to go with Zach to see the Washington Redskins play against the New York Jets at the Meadowlands in New Jersey. We left his place in Saratoga Springs, NY early Sunday morning around 8am. Arrived 2-1/2 hours later and proceeded to exit the car with caution. Everyone was wearing their Jets uniform and of course the tailgate parties were in full swing. After briefly checking out the status of people we decided to go back to the car and put on our Redskin clothing. It was cool, and in fact we got a few positive nods from other Redskin fans throughout the complex. Overheard some Jets guy say, “Man, there sure are a lot of Redskin fans here…” And rightly so. We were there to watch the Jets receive a beat down.
Coin was tossed and the Redskins won the toss, chose to kick to NY. The kick was made and in less than 13 seconds the Jets ran that ball to their end zone… Way to start the game, guys. Jets dominated the ‘Skins until the 2nd half. Skins finally warmed up to the NY weather and felt the need to usher some pressure. Soon the game was 20 - 17 Skins. Jets ran the ball to their 3 yard line with 20 seconds left 4 and 3. They made a field goal tieing the game 20 - 20 with around 10 seconds left.

Overtime… Jets again went to their GOAL line with the ball and lost it on downs. Skins made several plays bringing the clock down to 9 minutes. They were at the 29 and made a winning field goal. What a game!!! It obviously was better being there than watching it on t.v..

Zach and I had a few good laughs at the Jets fan to our left and the Skins fan to our right. The dude on our right was always yelling (very very loud) “LETS GO REDSKINS, YEAAAAAAAAaaaaaaahhh” Must have done this 30 times throughout the game while his voice slowly became horse. It was funny. The Jets fan to our left was the most entertaining. He was screaming at the Jets for being such a horrible team. “HEY COACH… YOU’RE GOING TO HAVE TO PAY ME TO COME TO YOUR GAMES FOR NOW ON…” I would not be surprised if the sideline guys heard him. He was bashing his own team… quite fun to listen to. Oh, and his voice carried. Zach and I walked around to get some food and were on one other corner of the stadium and we heard him loud and clear.
